Artist Adam Chamy explores nationalism and collective anxiety in "The Body Politic". The exhibition examines the American flag with allegorical bodies as unstable sites where the American identity converges with grief. Produced in 2025–26 amid an authoritarian drift in politics coinciding with America's 250th anniversary celebrations, these works feature expressive figures that appear partial, twisted, and suspended: bodies carrying the weight of protest, grief, and fear . The Classical compositions and patriotic imagery are deliberately unstable and collide with references to the contemporary moment: flags bleeding and dissolving and references to Renee Good's death at the hand's of ICE sit alongside heroic poses collapsing, twisting, and falling. The gestural mixed media works operate as an expression and marker of the moment: a time of collective anxiety at America's birthday regardless of politics, age, or persuasion.
